Utkal Express derailment LIVE UPDATES: Death toll rises to 23, over 60 injured in Muzaffarnagar train mishap

Utkal Express derailment: UP CM Yogi Adityanath has directed all possible help. PM Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and said Railway Ministry and state government are providing all assistance in the wake of tragic incident.
At least 23 people were killed and over 60 others injured as 14 coaches of Puri-Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar area on Saturday evening, ANI reported. The accident occurred at around 5.45 pm in Khatauli, 40 km from Muzaffarnagar. Reflecting on the incident, Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said he was personally monitoring the situation and that he has directed senior officials to take stock of the situation and ensure speedy rescue and relief operations.
The cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed all possible help. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and said Railway Ministry and state government are providing all assistance in the wake of tragic incident.

7.55 pm: “I have seen few dead bodies, can’t say the exact number, many injured. Manoj Sinha ji has left from Delhi,” Muzaffarnagar MP Sanjeev Balyan was quoted as saying by ANI.

7.45 pm: 2 NDRF teams, comprising 45 personnel each, and two canines have been rushed to the Muzaffarnagar accident site from their base in Ghaziabad.

7.24 pm: Union Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered inquiry into the accident to ascertain the cause and promised that strict action will be taken against any lapse.
7.18 pm: UP CM Yogi Adityanath has expressed his grief over the incident and has assured of all possible help.

7.05 pm: The derailment is likely to affect movement of trains on the busy Northern Railway route.
7.03 pm: At 20 people have been injured, according to eyewitnesses. Meanwhile, DG (Meerut Zone) Prashant Kumar said the number of injured persons was yet to be ascertained.

Algorithmic trading case: I-T department swoops on former NSE bosses, brokers

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) is also investigating the NSE algo trading case to ascertain if brokers made unfair gains in connivance with exchange officials. The Income Tax (I-T) department has searched the premises of former top officials of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), a few brokers and private technology providers in connection with an algorithmic trading case still being uncovered. The tax authority also searched the premises of the wife of a serving top official, and a research and investing firm in connection with alleged irregularities in the algorithmic trading case.
