Govt asks 1,222 NGOs to validate bank accounts receiving foreign donations

The list includes Sri Ramakrishna Math, Ramakrishna Mission, Indore Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust, Coimbatore Christian Charitable Trust, Delhi School Of Social Work Society, Hindu Anath Ashram and Madani Darut Tarbiyat. As many as 1,222 NGOs across the country have been directed by the home ministry to validate the bank accounts in which they receive foreign contribution, failure of which will invite punitive action. Among others, the list includes Sri Ramakrishna Math, Ramakrishna Mission, Indore Cancer Foundation Charitable Trust, Coimbatore Christian Charitable Trust, Delhi School Of Social Work Society, Hindu Anath Ashram and Madani Darut Tarbiyat. In a circular, the ministry said all NGOs registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) should receive foreign donations in a single designated bank account. Government restricts bank accounts of over 2 lakh ‘struck off’ companies

The banks have been advised to go in for “enhanced diligence” while dealing with companies in general, the release said. The government has advised banks to “put restrictions” on the operation of bank accounts of the 2,09,032 companies delisted by the Registrar of Companies. “Since such ‘struck off’ companies have ceased to exist, action has been initiated to restrict the operation of Bank accounts of such companies. The Department of Financial Services has, through the Indian Banks Association, advised all Banks that they should take immediate steps to put restrictions on bank accounts of such struck off companies,” a finance ministry release said. Pakistan on Tuesday rejected a statement by the five emerging-market BRICS powers that militant groups in Pakistan pose a regional security concern, with its defence minister saying no such group operates freely inside Pakistan. Senior AIADMK leader D Jayakumar confirmed to the media that as many as 111 MLAs have "wholeheartedly extended their full cooperation" to the chief minister. The party members have unanimously adopted a resolution reposing their faith in the leadership. The deaths came to light after the City Magistrate of Farrukhabad, Jaytendra Kumar Jain, on Sunday night asked the Station House Officer of city Police station in Farrukhabad to take necessary action against the hospital and its doctors, citing that he had found in his preliminary inquiry that the 49 deaths took place because of lack of oxygen supply. In a case similar to Gorakhpur hospital tragedy, 49 children have reportedly died in another Uttar Pradesh hospital — allegedly due to a shortage of oxygen supply. The deaths at the newborn unit of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Farrukhabad, took place over the past month. The Uttar Pradesh government, however, denied that the deaths took place owing to lack of oxygen supply but attributed them to various causes. The accident that has been categorised as a level III emergency by the fire brigade, witnessed teams of the NDRF and the Fire Brigade at the spot engaged in rescue operations. A six-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Bhendi Bazaar area leaving 22 dead and many injured on Thursday. At least 30 people have been rescued with several others reported to be trapped under the rubble of the dilapidated Husaini Building. The accident that has been categorised as a level III emergency by the fire brigade, witnessed teams of the NDRF and the Fire Brigade at the spot engaged in rescue operations.
